Shatsk : National Nature Park

The park was officially created by the Ministry of Ukrainian Soviet Republic in 1983, later the president of then independent Ukraine has awarded the place 49,000,000 м2.

The park was created with the goal to preserve, create and sustainable usage of unique natural environments of the international importance and value, develop the network on world wide level in preserving and maintenance of biological and spatial diversity.

It is comprised from:
Crymno Lake - Sand Lake - Pulemetske Lake - Svityaz’ Lake - Klymivs’ke Lake (zoological reserve) - Hydrologic reserves: Luki Swamp - Painted Swamp - Piddovge-Pidkrugle Swamp
The territory of the park belongs to Volyn region, zone of the mixed forests, and here lays the main Euroepan water reserves, which separates basins of Pripyat river and West Bugor river.

Contemporary facts:
- 23 lakes (amongst which the biggest lake in Ukraine: Svityaz - 26,2kм2 & 58,4m deep)
- 31 types of fish
- 33 species of fauna are in the Red Book
- 800 types of plants
- 28 species of flora are in the Red Book
Shatsky region is considered to be one of the most eco-friendly recreational spots and is a pride of Ukrainian people. There are plenty of spaces to camp: from tents to more traditional caravan allocations ending with room/hut rentals. There are also small spa hotels and resorts, but at a much steeper prices.

Walking trails are around 5km and are a perfect day there-and-back fun. There is also an annual international song festival “On the waves of Svityaz”.
However, the true reason I take everyone I love to that area is that it is incredible wild and romantic, without being dangerous.
